Forest

About The Forest Archetype

The Forest archetype represents a person who recognizes that their whole self is larger than their parts. In a forest there are trees, underbrush, other plants, wildlife, insects, microbes, and soil, but when we stand back we see beyond those individual parts and see instead the majesty of the forest. The person with this archetype does not judge and is forgiving of people. A humanitarian at heart, they naturally see the good in other people and easily recognize and celebrate the good in themselves.

A person with the Forest archetype is a complex thinker and can manage many details easily. They are also adept at seeing the big picture where others are not. They have a healing quality to them and people tend to be drawn to the calm they exhibit. They have a strong relationship to the mysteries in nature and are usually very connected to nature when they are children.

They organize their thinking and their life in what can seem like traditional ways, but in reality, they have their own unique logic and structure to how they live and think. Like a forest, they can seem like one unified thing, but when they are known better it becomes clear that they are as varied as the great forest their archetype represents.

In relationships, they will connect deeply to someone who has the ability to be with them, often without speaking. While they are focused on their internal life they also tend to be successful in the world.

The dappled light created within a forest gives an excellent clue as to the types of people and environments the Forest archetype is most comfortable with. This archetype appreciates nuances in people and places and moves away from the loud and brash. Because they can recognize both the micro and the macro in most situations they can easily read between the lines in conversations seeing the more subtle points and are able to acknowledge this less than obvious information. This can cause misunderstandings so this archetype must remember to remain sensitive to the non-verbal reactions they see in anyone they speak with to best determine how much information to share with them.

The Forest archetype represents a good balance between the spiritual and practical and usually can see the spiritual in the practical. This is a down-to-earth person who has a mystical side and is often highly creative. Because they are good problem solvers they often find work solving and fixing problems, which can be very satisfying for them, and especially satisfying if they are also using their creative gifts. This archetype is often more comfortable being a vegan or vegetarian, at least during periods of their life. They are an earth element, but similar to the Moonlight archetype, water plays an important role for them helping regulate their emotional, mental, and physical energy.

Guided Exercise

Expanding Mystical Expression

This exercise will help develop more of the Forest archetype’s mystical nature, which is an integral part of their personal evolution and purpose on the planet. A very small percentage of members of the Forest archetype are genuine mystics, but the majority have mystical leanings, which is an important quality and highly beneficial to the planet because it concentrates its energy on love for nature and humanity.

To understand how mystical energy moves from a person out into the world, imagine you are above a person and looking down on them. When a mystical thought is expressed it moves out from the Heart Chakra in a 360-degree band of energy that encircles the person’s body. This full circle of energy gradually extends out from the body in gentle pulsations whose timing is not unlike that of waves in the ocean. Visualizing this expression of mystical energy nurtures the connection to it and its development for the Forest archetype.

This can be done at home or in nature; sitting or standing. With closed eyes envision a band of light encircling your chest at the level of your Heart Chakra. Let the color of the light be whatever it determines to be. It may change hues as the visualization progresses. Watch the band of light move several inches out from your body in a full circle in one gentle pulsation. Relax into how this slightly larger circle of light feels. This gentle pulsation will happen again after a period of time, moving the circle a little further out from your body. Allow these pulsations to happen in their own timing. There is no rush. Try to envision the ever-growing circle of light moving out from your body. Spend as much time as you like in this quiet observational state and when you are ready, open your eyes, do some gentle stretching and continue on with the rest of your day.

The more this exercise is practiced the easier it will be to see how large this circle of light can grow. This light/energy is what a mystical thought looks like. You are experiencing the foundational process of mystical expression on the energetic level. This exercise develops the pathway for your conscious delivery of mystical thoughts and actions into the world. This exercise is safe to do as often as you like.
