Moonlight

About The Moonlight Archetype

The Moonlight archetype represents a person who is a peacemaker, who can solve problems out of the spotlight, and who does not require extra praise for their efforts. Like the moon, reflecting the light of the sun, this person is happy to be a working reflection of the universe in whatever ways they can. As the moon seemingly has different phases, this person can seem to drift further away sometimes more than others, but as the moon is never actually gone, this person is always fully there, especially to someone who is willing to look closely enough to see them.

A person with the Moonlight archetype has the highest good of others in mind in addition to the highest good for themselves. They tend to be a seeker on the spiritual path looking for answers to the deeper questions in life. They are often non-traditional in their ways, not concerned with the norms of society, and while not necessarily true rebels, what matters to them is what truly resonates for them despite what others may think.

They are loving partners but are not always easily understood because they tend to pull away from people from time to time. They are classic introverts and lovers of nature. They are naturally intuitive and develop their higher intuition once they stop trying to make that happen. They are pleasant and loving people with always something nice to say to others. A good and loyal friend and partner, they believe in expressing and sharing love.

The Moonlight archetype has a shimmering energy that can sometimes make them feel otherworldly. This energy, if well-managed, can make a person with this archetype nervous or skittish in unfamiliar environments. This can also be true when their internal environment begins to change due to personal growth.

This archetype is a light element, but water is also an important element for them. It can help soothe and ground them, stabilizing their shimmering energy and making it useful to them. Water used in baths, showers, or even just immersing the forearms in cool running water are the easiest applications of water for them. Swimming, when possible, is ideal.

It is not uncommon for this archetype to have a sensitive digestive system, so adhering to a diet that is balanced and consistent is best. This archetype likes the evening to late night hours and given the choice they will stay up late whenever possible. Gentle movement is highly beneficial for this archetype such as Qigong, Tai Chi, improvisational dance, or gentle stretching. Singing or playing a musical instrument is often natural for this archetype.

Guided Exercise

Expanding Spiritual Horizons

The Moonlight archetype is always interested in going deeper, especially spiritually. To assist in opening to more spiritual development and understanding, the Moonlight archetype will want to practice placing themselves at the outer edge of their current awareness. This exercise teaches one way to do that.

Find an environment that is as free of distractions as possible. Stand or sit, depending on your preference, and close your eyes. In your mind’s eye gaze off into the distance. As you do this a scene of some kind may begin to form or you may not see anything specific. Either version is fine. Keep your breath even and a little deeper than normal. Begin to move forward within your mind’s eye. This may be represented by imagining yourself walking or perhaps gliding forward. Keep your focus on the most distant point you can see and allow yourself to watch that distance point gradually grow closer as you move forward. Allow this to happen at a natural pace. There is no need to rush.

You are moving toward the representation of the current limit of your conscious awareness. Your consciousness is greater than your conscious awareness of it, so there is always room for growth. As you move toward this distant point you may see a number of different scenes or environments. You do not need to focus on these now, but you could journal about them later to learn more about their significance to you.

Once you reach the outward edge you have been traveling toward —  this will take time to reach — you will no longer be able to move forward since there is nothing available for you to move into. You are facing a wall of energy that might have colors associated with it or it could be blank. When you feel ready, place your hands on this energetic wall. You will likely feel some amount of resistance if you apply a small amount of pressure. If you do not feel resistance you are not yet at the edge of your awareness and will want to move forward more. If this is the case, lower your hands and move forward as much as you can. Then place your hands on the energetic wall again. If you still do not feel any resistance repeat what you just did until you feel resistance.

Once you feel resistance against your hands, move your hands gently forward into this wall of energy. The ‘wall’ will begin to shift and move away/vanish. This will look different from person to person. Watch this change occur and observe whatever happens next. When you feel the change has finished evolving, take a deep cleansing breath and spend a few minutes, or as long as you like, growing accustomed to this new environment. It is an energetic representation of the conscious location where more spiritual understanding can develop for you. You have helped to naturally create more internal space for your spiritual growth. When you are ready, slowly open your eyes.

This exercise can be repeated as often as desired, but it is good to leave at least 48 hours between experiences to give enough time for you to process the exercise. This exercise works deeply within a person’s consciousness and it can take weeks or months for changes to be recognized.
